"Moons and Stars" was cut from Mr. Pinkney's wonderful painting which I interpret as a wizard examining the heavens through a telescope device of his own creation, and perhaps a bit of magic.

The puzzle contains 334 pieces and 34 Figurals, including 28 moons and stars. Two little wizards can be seen casting spells, a candle burns to the side, and Buff the Magic Dragon is exploring the device. Our astronomer better be careful, though, because his pet frog escaped and his salamander is either going to break the gears or get squashed by them.

This next picture demonstrates a better look at the Figural pieces.

One of the neat things I find about using Figurals is how sometimes they can absorb elements from the background picture to take on a life of their own. This is seen nicely in this little wizard. The sweeping maroons and the white from the main character's vest give this Figural robes of his own, and a bit of nastiness about to erupt from his wand.
